Matthew Hudson-Smith and Dina Asher-Smith bounced back from their Olympic disappointments with victories in the Diamond League in Lausanne.
Hudson-Smith was pipped to gold in the men’s 400 metres final at Paris 2024 by just four hundredths of a second by Quincy Hall and the pair were expected to renew their rivalry on Thursday evening.
But Hall withdrew from the showdown and Hudson-Smith claimed the win in 43.96 seconds, eight hundredths of a second quicker than Olympic bronze medallist Muzala Samukonga.
Asher-Smith did not make the women’s 100m final in the French capital but she ran a season’s best 10.88 to triumph in Switzerland, with British compatriot Daryll Neita a disappointing seventh.
Great Britain made it a sprint double by winning the women’s 4x100m, while Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo prevailed in the men’s 200m.
However, Jakob Ingebrigtsen gained a measure of revenge for losing to Cole Hocker in the men’s 1500m final at the Olympics as the Norwegian prevailed in their latest meeting by just over two seconds.
